Kimberly-Clark’s (Irving, TX) board has authorized a potential spin-off of its healthcare business. Kimberly-Clark said Robert Abernathy, currently group president – Europe, global nonwovens and continuous improvement and sustainability, will become CEO of potential the company. If the spin-off is approved, the transaction would be completed by the end of Q3 2014

 

HMA’s (Naples, FL) board of directors, in consultation with its outside financial and legal advisors, completed a review of the definitive merger agreement between HMA and Community Health Systems Inc (CHS) (Franklin, TN) and unanimously affirmed its support for the transaction. The board recommends HMA stockholders vote for the adoption of the merger agreement with CHS. Under the proposed deal, HMA will be acquired by CHS for approximately $7.6 billion, including the assumption of outstanding indebtedness. The transaction is expected to close in Q1 2014.

Cardinal Health Foundation (Dublin, OH) is accepting applications for grant funding to help U.S., Canadian, and Puerto Rican hospitals, health systems, community health clinics, and other non-profit healthcare institutions improve the efficiency and quality of patient care. Cardinal Health Foundation E3 Grant Program applicants are encouraged to submit funding requests for projects that will improve medication safety, to test an Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) (Denver, CO) protocol focused on reducing pressure ulcers in the operating room (OR), or to implement best practices in the care of babies born addicted to opiates. Applications for E3 grants must be submitted on the Cardinal Health community website by December 6, 2013
